In a recent development, concerns have emerged over the schedule of the much-anticipated International Cricket Cup (ICC) 2023 ODI World Cup, scheduled to kick off on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, revealed that adjustments could be made to the tournament schedule in response to complaints from multiple Full Member countries.

This announcement comes just a week after media reports highlighted the rescheduling of the Pakistan-India match, indicating potential disruptions to the initial fixture plan. It appears that several Full Member countries have expressed concerns regarding the existing schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup, prompting the BCCI to consider alterations.

One notable change in consideration is the match between Pakistan and England, slated for November 12. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has reportedly requested a schedule change for this match due to a significant cultural festival, Kali Puja, falling on the same day. Kali Puja, the second-largest festival in West Bengal, necessitates heightened security measures in the region, creating challenges for match organization and safety.

While CAB President Snehasish Ganguly neither confirmed nor denied the request, it was reported that Kolkata Police raised concerns about ensuring adequate security for the match coinciding with Diwali celebrations. A senior CAB official stated, “We have informed the ICC and BCCI to reschedule it and if it does not happen we would inform this to the chief minister.” However, the CAB chief maintained that an official confirmation from Kolkata Police was awaited before taking any further steps.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah emphasized the need to address logistical challenges and ensure fair gameplay conditions for all teams. “Several Full Member countries have written in requesting to change two or three dates in the schedule. We are working out with the ICC, and we should be able to clear it in two or three days,” Shah explained.

The BCCI aims to minimize disruptions and maintain the selected venues whenever possible. Shah mentioned that they are considering adjustments to reduce short intervals between matches and provide teams with sufficient rest and travel time. Efforts are being made to strike a balance between accommodating the requests of Full Member countries and upholding the integrity of the tournament.

In conclusion, the ICC 2023 ODI World Cup schedule is under scrutiny due to concerns raised by various Full Member countries. BCCI is actively collaborating with the ICC to address these issues and ensure a successful and well-organized tournament, with updates expected to be finalized in the coming days.
